The Islamic “Republic” has put terrorism at the top of its plans for the survival of its
government. Since the establishment of this regime in 1979 it has attempted to assassinate
and execute dissidents inside and outside Iran. The 43 year history of the Islamic regime has
shown that it does not adhere to international laws and human rights.
In 1989, Abdurrahman Ghasemlou, the leader of the Democratic Kurdish Party,
was assassinated with the help of several agents of the Islamic Republic during
peace negotiations between the Kurds and the Iranian government.
Also, other principled dissidents have been assassinated by agents of the Islamic Republic in
many countries. These include Fereydoon Farrokhzad, Shapour Bakhtiar, Abdurrahman
Boroumand. The Islamic Republic repeatedly kidnaps people, captures its opponents outside
of Iran and drags them back for execution. The most recent example was Rooholla Zam, a
reporter and editor for Amed News, an online news publication opposed to the Islamic
Republic, based in France.
In recent months, we have witnessed a plot by the Islamic Republic to kidnap Massih
Alinejad, an opponent of the Iranian regime and women’s rights activist. They were planning
to kidnap Massih from the shores of New York, transfer her to Venezuela and then onto Iran.
Now the world is witnessing an assassination attempt on the life of Salman Rushdie, a
committed writer and critic of Islam. This assassination attempt followed the fatwa of
Ruhollah Khomeini issued more than 30 years ago against Salman Rushdie for writing the
famous book “Satanic Verses”.
The organisation “Women for Sustainable Freedom and Equality” has strongly condemned
the Islamic Republic’s attempt to assassinate Salman Rushdie. We believe this is terrorism.
We request that world leaders ask the Islamic Republic to condemn this incident clearly and
provide public proof of their adherence to international human rights standards.
Otherwise we are likely to witness similar incidents in their countries too.
